WALHT manage our time well. 

This week, hub 2 has been having a go at planning our own learning days. We love being able to choose what we want to do and when we want to do it. 

What were we doing this morning? 

Amber was working on her mandarin learning. 

Isabelle was practising her typing skills on dance mat typing.

Kate was using mathletics to improve her maths learning.

Santiago was conferencing with Mrs Ruffell, to add more detail to his writing plan.

Painting with straws: Part 1

We have been having a go at creating abstract paintings by blowing through straws.

We watched these videos and had lots of time to think about and discuss this new technique. Then we had a go using water on the concrete outside:

Then we practiced this technique using paint on paper. It was more tricky than we thought!

What are we cooking today?

It certainly smells pretty yummy in the kitchens at Stonefields this morning! We have two break through groups cooking today. We have build our knowledge about the recipes and the ingredients we need. Today we are applying our understanding by cooking macaroni cheese and chocolate chip cookies. Yum! Yum!

Descriptive writing

Some of the writers in Hub 2 have been exploring descriptions this week. They have written some very creative character descriptions based on a mysterious envelope...

We were shown this envelope, then had to plan and compose a description what what a Gobi Jerboa was.

Here are some quotes from our descriptions:

"Sometimes if you find it you will think it's a bit ugly but it's cute when you look at it properly" - Amelie

"He has two weird arms that are covered in hair and he grows as fat as a pumpkin." - Amber

"A Gobi Jerboa is a flying snake. It smells like chocolate to attract you because it wants to eat you!" - Jamie 

"It is as soft as a snowy pillow. Sometimes they are as hard as a rock." - Blair

Mrs Panapa came and visited us the next day for a big reveal of what a Gobi Jerboa really was. We couldn't wait! Turns out it looks like this!

This week for our concept "What makes a successful learner?" we had a challenge....

To collaborate to create a way of getting our toy animal across the DANGEROUS RIVER!!

We were given:

x10 sheets of paper / x1 piece of string / x1 yoghurt container / x2 straws / x8 rubber bands / x1 animal

We had only 20 minutes.  Here are some of the things we constructed...

Celebrating St Patrick!

HAPPY ST PATRICK'S DAY!

Today we learned what St Patrick's Day is and why it is celebrated.

We also made shamrocks (four leaf clovers) and leprechaun hats to honour the Irish culture.

Our Recipes for Good Friends

Last week, Hub 2 talked about what makes a good friend. We collaborated to make recipes to show what qualities we thought a good friend should have. 

Badminton Begins!

Today we had our first badminton lesson in the hall.  Badminton is going to run from week 3 - 5

I sometimes felt frustrated because I kept dropping the shuttle - Isabella
