Hub 2's summer day by Santiago

Hub 1 and 2 went to the Okahu Bay beach and we went on a school  bus.
I needed to bring sun block, raincoat, some spare clothes and a hat.
We went there because it  was summer and I went on the flying fox.
It went fast and fast because the wind made the flying  fox go quick.
It was fun. We played fun games on the grass at Okahu Bay. I went in this twirly thing and it was fun. We had morning tea and lunch at the park.
l went to see the beach and l saw rocks.

Bubble Painting!

Today we got to experience science and art at the same time...

We spent time learning all about bubbles, like how they are made, why they pop and what they look like in slow motion.

Here's a video of what we saw...

Then we learned how to use bubbles in art.  We added paint to the bubble mixture we had already made.  Next we used straws to blow bubbles so that we could put the paper onto the bubbles. When the bubbles popped they let prints on the paper!

Here are some photos of us in action...

Planning our own learning days!

WALHT Plan our day.
WALHT manage our time well.

This week, hub 2 has been having a go at planning our own learning days. We love being able to choose what we want to do and when we want to do it.

What were we doing this morning?

Amber was working on her mandarin learning.

Isabelle was practising her typing skills on dance mat typing.

Kate was using mathletics to improve her maths learning.

Santiago was conferencing with Mrs Ruffell, to add more detail to his writing plan.

*We will be hosting a parent evening to explain our new timetable. More details to come soon!

This week for our concept "What makes a successful learner?" we had a challenge....

To collaborate to create a way of getting our toy animal across the DANGEROUS RIVER!!

We were given:
x10 sheets of paper / x1 piece of string / x1 yoghurt container / x2 straws / x8 rubber bands / x1 animal

We had only 20 minutes.  Here are some of the things we constructed...

Watch this space to see whose construction reached the other side of the river safely!

Clown Day

Yesterday, Miss Campbell's literacy groups found out what it was like to be a clown. Today we have been writing about our day as a clown.
