Fantastic Foamy Fountain!

Wow! Today in science we made a fantastic foamy fountain. It was pretty amazing. Here is a video if you would like to see what it looked like.

What happened???
When the liquids were mixed together they turned into a foam.
The foam went up the cylinder like an elevator.
Bubbly stated to form in the foamy mixture.
The foam slowly spilled over the cylinder and travelled down the sides.

Why do we think this happened???
There was a reaction between the yeast and the hydrogen peroxide.
The yeast made the foamy mixture rise.

Why did it actually happen???
Each tiny foam bubble is filled with oxygen. The yeast acted as a helper and removed the oxygen from the hydrogen peroxide. Since it did this very fast, it created lots of bubbles!
The foam it created was warm and bubbly because of all the mixtures that were mixed together.

If you would like to do this experiment you will need:

2 measuring cylinders (1 large and 1 small)
1 tablespoon of dishwashing liquid
1/2 cup of hydrogen peroxide
3 tablespoons of warm water
1 tablespoon of dried yeast
Gloves for each person doing the experiment to wear
1 spoon or stick to stir

Kindness at Stonefields School

This week we have been out and about taking photos of people being kind in our school. There are lots of ways we can be kind to each other, both in the hub and in the playground. We have made this video to show others what kindness looks like.

This is the song we learnt, which you can hear in this movie. It's a favourite song for LH2 at the moment!

Stonefields School's first Triathlon!

It was great to see so many learners for LH2 participating in the triathlon today. After biking, swimming and running the long course it is not surprising our learners were very tired by the end of the day!

Art for the Disco!

Some learners from LH2 have been creating some art for the enchanted forest disco tomorrow night.
Their art is going to look fantastic at the disco! Keep an eye out for it!

Fake Snot!

Today we had an exciting science experiment...we learned how to make fake snot!

Did you know that snot or mucus is made up of sugar and protein.  The sugar is what makes it sticky ewww!

Here are some photos of us following the instructions.  Watch this space to read about our instructional writing soon...
