Trip to the Buddhist Temple

On the 27th May 2014 we went on a school trip with Hub 1 to the Buddhist Temple. It was so much FUN! I was with my Mum Caron and I was in group number three. Three is my Mum's favourite number. Sometimes children need to go to the bathroom and that's normal but it's not normal that they get stuck in there is it? But it is true because a girl got stuck in the toilet at the Buddhist Temple so... Mum had to go into the toilet next door and she had to climb over the toilet wall to save her! We went to the first place in the temple with the big golden statue. Policeman Justin asked Joe to do pushups with one hand. Joe did 10 pushups one handed. We watched a dvd and and had morning tea and did colouring in and got tattoos. We had a quiz and then said "bye" and "thank you for having us"and then we got on the bus to go back to school. We named our group team dolphin.

Our trip to the Buddhist Temple

There was a special welcome for us when we arrived at the Temple.
We got a pretend tattoo on our hand.

We all agreed that the temple was beautiful and a relaxing place to be.
We could also see that the environment was respected.

Who can remember the 3G and 4G messages we learnt? What can you share about this poster?

Making Mosaic Stepping Stones

This year the Enviro Group have been making mosaic stepping stones during our lunchtimes.

First we had to decide what designs we wanted on the stepping stones.

We watched the video below to help us make meaning of the mosaic process.

Once we had decided what we wanted to mosaic on the stepping stones, we collaborated to fill 6 stepping stones moulds with different images.

Finally we were ready to pour concrete into the stepping stone moulds.

We can't wait to see what out stepping stones turn out like!

'We're All in this Together'

Today for our concept learning we reflected on the immersion topics from the last two weeks which relate to the topic of community

                • Age
                • Gender
                • Culture
                • Disability
                • Values & Beliefs
                • Poverty
Each of us had to write down something we had begun to wonder about which related to one of the topics.

We then grouped the 'wonderings' so that we would be ready to begin investigating an aspect of 'community'

What's life like in Qatar?

We were so lucky today to have Jake's dad come in and talk to us about life in Qatar. He told us all about the country and how people live there, to help us with our inquiry.

The New Progressions!

We are very excited in Hub 2 because this week we have begun using the new online progressions!

With our teachers we have been having in depth reflective discussions about our learning so far this year.

We are in the process of learning how to highlight off the online progressions ourselves and identify our next learning goals and move away from using our paper copies.

This is so we can more easily stay informed between school and home as well as continue our reflective discussions not only with our teachers but our parents/caregivers too.

We can't wait for the community to have a chance to interact with it in a few weeks!

Stepping Out Today!

WALHT travel safely in a car.

Today we...
Learnt how to put our seat belts on correctly. The seat belt needs to sit on our shoulders to keep us safe.
Leant that it is safest to travel in a booster seat if we are not 148cm tall.
Dressed up in police uniforms.
Heard the police siren across the school.
Got a chance to ride in the police car! We also got to speak in to the speakers while we were in the car.

Cyber Smart

Cyber Smart Quiz!

This afternoon for elearning we completed the Cyber Safety Quiz.  This was a great opportunity for us to discuss what we knew about being safe online with a buddy.

Then we came together to discuss and reflect on what we had learned and what we need to become more aware of when using the internet.

Planning our own learning days!

WALHT Plan our day.
WALHT manage our time well.

This week, hub 2 has been having a go at planning our own learning days. We love being able to choose what we want to do and when we want to do it.

What were we doing this morning?

Amber was working on her mandarin learning.

Isabelle was practising her typing skills on dance mat typing.

Kate was using mathletics to improve her maths learning.

Santiago was conferencing with Mrs Ruffell, to add more detail to his writing plan.

*We will be hosting a parent evening to explain our new timetable. More details to come soon!

Stepping Out!

WALHT safely cross the road.

We have been learning this poem to help us cross the road safely.

STOP! LOOK! LISTEN!
Before you cross the street.
Use your eyes. Use your ears.
Before you use your feet.

Today we got to go outside and practise crossing the road by our school.
